J7 Vehicle Sales...Our Story

J7 Vehicle Sales was founded in 1989 by Terry Staton. It began as a class project for Mrs. Williams, his business teacher, at RHS in Waco. The project was actually implemented to get a bonus 100 for a management course at Tarleton State University for Dr. Jerry Madkins, Mad Max, who pushed his students to develop life goals and career plans. After an unsuccessful search for any source of 4-wheel drive vehicles in the area, Terry decided that there was a need for a dealership that handled both 4X4's and cool guy machines and accessories.

Terry was born into the business. His father, Luther Staton was a mechanic/car builder, and grandfather, W.A. Terry owned a used car dealership in Waco. Although both men told Terry to do anything but go into the car business, his love for cars was far too strong to keep him from following his dream. His mother, Betty, was a “dyed in the wool” car nut. Her favorite car was the Corvette. After several attempts, she convinced Luther to build her one, and the rest is history. A little red Corvette was pulled out of her cousin's garage, (Joyce Johnson) and the fun began. Joyce was cryin, Big Mike was smilin, the car needed Rhynoplasty. This story could go on indefinitely. We can accomodate anything from a frame off restoration or full custom build to a tune-up. J7 has a full body shop as well as a full service mechanic shop and parts department. We specialize in superb ride and drive.

J7 is one of the earliest registered cattle brands in the state of Texas. This brand belongs to the Halfords of Childress, Texas and was adopted as our dealership name because it's a symbol of endurance and easy to remember.
